Georges Goursat, aka SEM, who was born in Périgueux in 1863, and died in Paris in 1934, was one of the most characteristic painters of the Belle Epoque. Maxim’s restaurant was one of the favourite places of this fierce cartoonist, who knew better than anyone how to reveal the personality and vanities of the great and the good, in a few pencil lines. His work includes countless drawings, sketched from life at Maxim’s, where Sem found an endless source of inspiration in the regular customers. One of his artworks is actually still printed on the menu of the famous restaurant of Rue Royale.
Everywhere on this Website, you will find creations of exclusive products and boxed sets paying tribute to the talent of this outstanding portrait painter, who knew better than anyone else how to render the atmosphere, the splendour and the excesses of the Belle Epoque and the Roaring Twenties, through one of their most spectacular flagship: the Maxim’s Restaurant.
